This January, Eldon’s KGR/KLR range of stainless steel enclosures will get a brand new finish. The new 240s grit mechanically produced finish offers enhanced performance and appearance over the industry standard 180 grit finish.  

 

Many industries require the durability of an enhanced stainless steel finish, particularly food processing and packaging — a smooth, polished surface can hinder the growth of microorganisms as well as inhibit corrosion. Other areas in which a highly durable stainless steel finish is desirable include water treatment application and a host of marine applications.

 

“The photos clearly demonstrate that a 240s grit finish can increase the durability of 304 grade stainless steel to the point that it surpasses 316 grade stainless with a traditional 180 grit finish,” said Chris Bourne, Manager of Stainless Steel Products. “Fewer and smaller gaps in the surface of the steel significantly increase its resistance to corrosion.”

This new finish is obtained by using silicon abrasives to provide a smoother, more rounded profile to the surface finish with the depth of the scratch pattern being measured at around Ra0.2.

 

Eldon will continue to offer electro-polished finishes on stainless steel products as a custom option.
